Four New ROTF Toy Reviews

After a slight detour to review Power Rangers and Beast Wars toys, Peaugh is back with four new reviews of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toys. This time he reviews Deluxe class Ratchet, Lockdown and Brawn and also Scout Class Skystalker. All four are part of the new NEST Human Alliance toys coming out in the next few months. That sub-line has lots of repaints so it’s good to see some of the new molds.

NEST Shorts in 2010?

It appears that Tomy Takara plans to support the NEST sub line for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toys with style. According to TFormers, there will be a series of short videos released to the web called "Transformers Cyber Mission" along with Toys R Us Japan exclusive NEST badge to first 4000 people that spend 2000 yen or more on ROTF products at their stores. The details on the videos (number, cgi, cartoon, voice, story, etc) have not been released.

Thanks to nightbird, here is the translated text:
N.E.S.T. Enrollment Campaign
Get a Toys R Us exclusive N.E.S.T. tin badge by purchasing more than 2,000 yen worth ROTF products at TRU stores within Japan (except the online store) after Jan 23th 2010. For first 4000 customers only.

Human Alliance Barricade Video Review

Below is a video review of Human Alliance Barricade with Frenzy set that is popping up in stores now. The review is by Baltmatrix and does a good job showing off the figure that while part of the Revenge of the Fallen toy line is really based on the first movie. This includes having Frenzy tucked under Barricade's hood similar to the movie, a feature not obvious from previous images of the toy. Thanks to RY for the link.

Hasbro's Legends Devastator in Package (Updated)

The Arker has posted the first images indicating that Legends class Devastator is getting a stateside visit. The images below show the toy in its package with the Hasbro logo in the bottom right corner. No indication of release date, price, and if exclusive or not. To me the curved packaging and the silver naming along the top looks very similar to previous Target Transformers exclusives.

Update: From the comments, click here for a large gallery that shows off the new Transformers in more detail with in package, out of package, robot mode, and vehicle mode images for the whole and the individual Constructicons.

Transformers Linkfest

Another installment with more galleries, toys and a custom 7 foot Prime for sale.

Custom Optimus Prime 7ft Statue (mirror)
From EBay Australia is this rather sweet looking fan made statue of Prime in movie form. The work is the result of around $10,000 in parts, 75 days of label, and a whole lot of scrap metal. The weight is estimated around 450-559kg (992-1213lbs). Click the link to read a lot more about the project. The "buy it now" price currently at AU $47k with no bids. Click here for the auction. Thanks to Katie for the link.

NEST Deluxe Figures Gallery
Click the link for a look at the nest wave of NEST toys for Revenge of the Fallen coming out early next year. The images include Brawn, Lockdown, Ratchet, and combined Skystalker and Mindwipe (vehicle mode only).

Shadow Command Megatron & Strike Mission Sideswipe in Packages
At this link are images of the two toys in their packaging. Both are repaints that actually appear to be a better color scheme then their original look. I believe both are part of the next wave of toys coming out early next year.

Buster Prime & Jetfire 2-Pack
Asian only release, this leader class two pack features the improved version of Optimus Prime with Jetfire who is also featuring a new paint job with a black, brown and dark gray scheme. Still no indications if Buster Prime will make a Stateside or European release.

Official Images of 2010 Legends and Deluxes
Click for sizeable gallery of the next wave of Legends, Deluxe and HA Barricade that is coming early next year. It’s basically two images per, one for package, one for alt mode. The images include Legends Wheelie, Soundwave, Bluesteel Sideswipe along with Deluxe Dirge, Alliance Bumblebee, Tuner Mudflap, and Armorhide.

Ultimate Optimus Collection Auction
If your a fan of Optimus Prime you might be interested in this auction which has almost 140 different Prime items for sale in one auction. Click the link for images and the full list. The auction expires on December 20th. Thanks to OptiMagnusPrime for the link.

Transformers Linkfest

More links to more Transformers related galleries and news of note.

Transformers USB Thumb Drive
From Paramount Digital Entertainment, a limited edition run of 20,000 4GB USB drives in the Autobot logo shape that comes with own unique ID number and a copy of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on it. The price is about 20 pounds and appears to be a UK exclusive, released as part of the promotion for the November 30th home video release of the movie in the country. If in that area, click here to order. Thanks to Kaly for the link.

Premium Ironhide Custom
Link to a gallery of a fantastic custom paint job of Ironhide using the 2007 toy as the base. Thanks to Shane for the link.

Bumblebee, Soundwave 2-pack Packaging (sort of)
If you’re interested, a look at the packaging for Battlefield Bumblebee and Infiltration Soundwave. Both repaints of the deluxe toys, Bumblebee looks about the same as the cannon one while Soundwave has a red and blue color scheme of sorts. It is believed this packaging is not US bound.

Transformers 25th Anniversary Memorial Stamp Set
From Nikkon Broadcast is a stamp and trading card set. It includes 10 stamps, 50 JYP ($.55), five trading cards and special edition portfolio. It is for the Japan market only.

Transformers Encore #19
Tomy Takara has officially announced the release of Big Mission Cassettes Volume 3 for later this month for around $47. Japan only release, it will include Rumble, Frenzy, Laserbeak, and Overkill.

ROTF Gold Prime
Click the link for a look at a gold painted version of Optimus Prime (Leader class but not sure). I guess part of a contest.

Human Alliance Barricade and Mudflap

Two more toys are joining the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Human Alliance sub class. One is Barricade with Frenzy and another is Mudflap with Simmons & Chromia which essentially mirrors the Skids with Mikaela & Arcee set. I will wait on Peaugh's reviews before making any final decisions but the Human Alliance toys have turned out to be pretty good (if a touch overpriced).

Galleries: Barricade | Mudflap

Buster Optimus Prime Video Review

Peaugh has posted a new Transformers video review, this time for Revenge of the Fallen Leader class Buster Optimus Prime. This toy is currently a Japan exclusive but that doesn't mean it may not get a release elsewhere in the future.

Overall it is an improved version with the same transformation but better, more detailed paint job and a sweet accessory. I am just glad I had not bought the current Leader Prime as will gamble I can get this version at retail in the future. Wish I could say this toy is why but really Hasbro has trained me to wait until at least two versions of every toy have been announced as most of the time the repaint is an improvement either in design and/or color scheme.

Voyager Bludeon Hidden Feature

Thanks to Yoboy, here is a video update for Voyager Bludgeon that show that his Katanas can combine into a longer sword, something not shown in previous review.

Transformers Linkfest

Lot of new links to various Transformer galleries including new Alternity gallery with review, look at Legends Devastator in G1 colors, Masterpiece Nemesis Prime and more.

Alternity Bumblebee and Cliffjumper Gallery
Huge 84 image gallery of the now finished version of the next figures in the Japan exclusive Transformers Alternity line. The alternate mode is the Suzuki Swift Sport and the two are essentially identical except for color and head mold. The Alternity line are small (about Deluxe sized) but detailed toys with complex transformations and use of die-cast in their construction. The average stateside import price is $50.

Alternity Bumblebee Video Review
In addition to the above gallery, here is a video review of Alternity Bumblebee that shows off the gimmicks and the transformation of the toy. Due to cussing can't exactly call it safe for work nor is it as good as Peaugh's but gives you an idea of whether the toy is worth the extra cost.(via TFW2005)

Masterpiece Optimus Prime in Black
Gallery of in package MP Prime in yet another re-issue (I think fifth version). This time the Japan exclusive is sporting the black and teal that tends to be associated with Nemesis Prime.

EZ Collection Devastator in G1 Green (mirror)
Click the link to view an official gallery of images from Takara of the repaint of Legends Devastator that remains a Japan exclusive. He is sporting the G1 green that the Constructicons first had back in 1984. Thanks to Christopher and RY for the links.

Next Masterpiece Toy Hint
In an interview with TF designer who created MP Prime, Buster Prime, and more Hirinori Kobayashi hints that the next figure in the MP line will come from the Season 3 line of toys. That season was dominated by characters from Transformers: The Movie.

XBox Revenge of the Fallen Avatars
Now available on the XBox Live Marketplace is Transformers: ROTF clothing and helmets for your avatars. The helmets (Megatron, Bumblebee, Optimus Prime) cost 240 MS points and the shirts (7 types total) are 80 MS points.

Device Label Grimlock and Trypticon
Now available in Japan are these two new Transformers from the Device Label line. Grimlock and Trypticon are identical (except for paint job) whose alt mode is a fully functional optical mouse. The average cost stateside $50 each.

Another Leader Starscream Gallery
A new high-quality gallery of the upcoming toy that almost seem like official images. No clue when Leader class Starscream reaches stores, actually thought he would have by now for the Holiday season but maybe he is being held back for the 2010 wave of toys. Thanks to Kaly for the link.

Black Friday Shopping Guide

Here in the states, Friday is when the Christmas sales season officially begins. The marketing people way back when started calling it "Black Friday" as it is often the day that stores go "into the black" to profitability for the year. It is usually a day with lots of shopping, good deals, waiting in lines and chaos.

Anyway, thanks to TFormers, if you are in the market for Transformers, they have a fantastic guide that breaks down all the various deals available nationwide. In general, most of the deals are nothing special; working out to be around 10-20% off retail but hopefully you will find what you are looking for at a worthwhile price.

Click here for TFormers Shopping Guide and click here for more info on BFAds.net which is the source I use for Black Friday information.

More Buster Optimus Prime Images

For whatever reason, a bunch of new images have popped up of Leader class Buster Optimus Prime which is currently a Japan only exclusive from Takara. The main differences are a more movie accurate paint job and the additional accessory based on Prime's blaster (from the factory scene that sends Starscream through the wall). I will be really surprised if this toy doesn't get released in North America and Europe as an exclusive at some point next year.

Gallery 1 and Gallery 2
Click these links for multiple shots of the toy in its package which is in English oddly enough. I believe the bio remains unchanged from the regular leader class Prime toy. The gallery also includes shots of the figure loose and combined with Jetfire. Thanks to Kaly for the link.

Comparison Gallery
This gallery is does a great job of uses images to compare Buster Prime (left) with the old (right). The images don't just do the usual far away shots but close-up of various parts to give you an idea of the many tweaks added all over the place to improve the toy. The new blaster accessory also gets shown off in detail.

Buster Prime 360 View
Last but not least is a flash video that gives you a 360 degree view of the toy. If you click "Action" in the top right you can also get a look the chest and light gimmick ("02 Style") and the vehicle mode ("03 Style"). Thanks to Baruch for the link.

Peaugh Video Review of Leader Starscream, Voyager Mindwipe

Here are two new video reviews of upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toys from Peaugh. The first is a review of Leader class Starscream. Like the previous review, this is based on the prototype version of the toy so the electronic aspects do not function. The differences between the two reviews are minor but Peaugh's does provide a better look at the transformation process and his gimmicks. The second video is for Voyager class Mindwipe, one of the few new molds for the upcoming wave of ROTF toys. Not that bad a toy, the dagger gimmick is a bit silly. Thanks to RY for the links.

Beachcomber, Deadlift Video Reviews

After a brief break reviewing Ghostbusters, Peaugh is back with two new video reviews of two Scout class Revenge of the Fallen toys. The first video is for Deadlift, a repaint of Dirt Boss in the Go-Bot's Spoons colors. The second video is for Beachcomber, a repaint of Dune Runner.

Transformers Linkfest

Bunch more links to various Transformer toy galleries and other TF related news.

EZ Devastator in G1 Green
A new image has popped up showing the EZ Collection (Legends) version of Devastator is getting a repaint in Generation One green that was the signature look for the Construction line. The figure is scheduled for March 2010 release in Japan only. Still no official confirmation that the Legends class Devastator of any color will get a stateside release.

Leader Shadow Command Megatron and Voyager Final Defense Optimus Prime
A new gallery of the upcoming repaints of the two faction leaders. The color scheme of gray and black looks pretty good on Megatron, something the movie version might benefit from since he has been essentially neutered by repeated Optimus beat downs in the sequel.

Scout Class 2-Packs
Click the link to view scout class repaints for the NEST Global Alliance two packs. One is "Windy City Chase" set with Slap Dash vs. Trenchmouth and the other is "Road Rival Showdown" of Beachcomber vs. Deadlift.

Voyager Bludgeon Gallery
New gallery of Bludgeon, a G1 character getting the ROTF toy treatment. The result is a pretty slick figure new and old fans will like. I am waiting for a video review before deciding if will pull the trigger and purchase once the toy comes out (no date on when). Update: Forgot Peaugh already did a review, which I posted about here. Thanks to Bruno for the reminder.

Supreme class Devastator Sale
If you’re in the market for the Supreme class Devastator, Costco.com is selling the toy for $69.99 with S&H included, for a $30 savings.

Transformers Continuum Preview
Five pages of the upcoming one-shop. The comic provides a summary of events in the last few years of Transformers comics that IDW has published so help get fans up to speed for the new ongoing Transformers comic series coming out in around two weeks.

Leader Class Starscream Video Review

Finally a good look at the new Leader class Starscream from KOToys' GenZhao. The review is based on a prototype version so doesn't include a look at the electronic gimmicks of the toy (click here for a brief look). Overall, the robot mode remains ugly but has improved look and articulation compared to the Voyager class. This might be the first version of Starscream that I have considered buying. The photo gallery at the end of the video can be found here. (via TFormers)

Transformers Linkfest

Time for more links to more galleries and news of the last few days relating to Transformers.

ROTF Available on USB
Kingston and Paramount have joined together to start offering their new releases on 4GB USB thumb drives starting with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Similar programs have been done with other media (mostly on memory sticks) but doomed to failure due to the cost of the combined product. Considering a 4GB stick can be found for $10 or less and the movie for $15, its seems the MSRP price tag of $29.99 does little to address that issue.

Leader Starscream Gallery
New gallery that shows off the Leader class toy with comparison shots to other toys to give you an idea of Starscream's size. A worthwhile look for those on the fence about buying the toy.

Bumblebee vs Soundwave Set Packaging
A look at the package for the upcoming set that has another repaint of Soundwave with Cannon Bumblebee (both deluxes) including the bio. The set is part of the NEST Global Alliance sub-line that is coming out soon.

NEST Global Alliance Mail Away Offer
Back in the G1 days Hasbro use to offer exclusive mail offers for toys. Send in enough points, pay the price and you could get cool toys like Reflector. It seems that Hasbro is relaunching a similar program with the NEST Global Alliance line but sadly the exclusive is not nearly as cool with the exclusive offer being revealed to be a repaint of Deluxe Ravage sporting red highlights. Click the link on details on how purchasing NEST toys will give you a chance to get this toy.

Surface to Air 2-Pack Now Available
The Costco exclusive is now showing up in stores. The pack contains Voyager Grindor and Voyager Ratchet for $32.99.

New Marvel Crossover Gallery
A new gallery that shows the upcoming slate of Transformers/Marvel crossover series with some new toys and mostly repaints. A new design for the Hulk as a bulldozer while Wolverine gets another repaint in his X-Force black and grey colors.

Takara Voyager Optimus Prime Repaint
A new repaint of Prime in Japan minus the Chinese characters and darker G1ish colors and Autobot logo on the side. Not sure if this is going to be released outside of Japan but wouldn't surprise me if it does.

Transformers Linkfest

Time for another list of links to various galleries of new Revenge of the Fallen toys (mostly repaints) and the like.

Bumblebee vs. Soundwave
From Entertainment Earth, a box set of the two deluxe size toys in NEST packaging that is apparently part of an "Exclusive Figure Offer". The set will be released in February for $23.99. BB is the cannon version and Soundwave is another repaint with red highlights.

2010 Wave One Gallery
Official images of the next wave of Revenge of the Fallen toys that will be coming out next year, much of which is repaints. Thanks to RY for the link.

Masterpiece Skywarp Review
From Seibertron.com, a review of the Wal-Mart exclusive toy that is a repaint of Masterpiece Starscream released years ago in the states. This is essentially the same MP Skywarp released a little over a year ago in Japan but there have been a few touch-ups such as yellow eyes, painted nametag (rather than a sticker), chromed Decepticon logo and other tweaks. It’s a good read for anyone debating buying the rather expensive figure, especially if already has the Japan (Takara) version. Personally I think the Masterpiece line as a whole has produced some of the best Transformers ever so worth considering if you have never bought any versions of G1 Masterpiece Seeker made over the years.

Nebular Starscream
K-Mart is joining the Transformers exclusive bandwagon with a pretty good looking repaint of Voyager Starscream in a black and green color scheme. No idea when it will be released. Another look can be seen here and better look at the packaging here. Thanks to RY for the link.

RPM Jetfire
The RPM line, mostly limited to cars, is adding Jetfire to the line. The RPM line is the one where it’s essentially matchbox cars with the robot mode painted on the underside of the vehicle.

RPM Megatron
Another RPM figure, this time Battle Charger Megatron. This one has a little upper body figure of Megatron pop out of the turret section.

MP Grimlock Stateside, Device Label, and More

Device Label Cats
A new gallery shows off Tigatron and Ravage and their packaging for the upcoming Transformers Device Label line that is being released in Japan only. In this case the alt mode is a working 2GB USB thumb drive. Other figures in the line will include a laptop and mouse. It appears the toys are around scout sized but don't have a scout sized price of around $50.

Device Label Software Screenshot
The USB Transformers also come with "Transformers Desktop Defender" which essentially has a digital image of Tigatron or Ravage roaming around your desktop. Click the link to view screenshots and more info on the app.

Masterpiece Grimlock Stateside
In a quick interview with Hasbro's Transformers team, they said "We are pleased to announce that the next Masterpiece item that we will be releasing will be Grimlock in 2010. We are excited to be able to offer this item within the U.S. and will certainly share more details as we get closer to releasing him." Up until now the toy was a $100 plus toy released in Japan. Since the last three Masterpieces (Optimus Prime, Starscream, and Skywarp) have all been exclusive to Wal-Mart, it’s not a reach to assume the same will happen again.

Official Legends Gallery
New gallery that shows off upcoming Legends class figures including Arcee, Jolt, and Soundwave.

Official 2010 ROTF Toys and Mighty Muggs Gallery
Click the link to view a bunch of new pictures of the next wave of Revenge of the Fallen toys including Shadow Command Megatron, Defender Optimus Prime, Midewipe, Lockdown, Brawn, and more. Thanks to RY for the link.

ROTF Ramjet and Skywarp Sale
Wal-Mart is offering an online sale for Starscream repaints Ramjet and Skywarp with $10 Wal-Mart eGift card for $34.00. Click the link if interested in the purchase.

Recon Ironhide Video Review

Peaugh is back with a video review of Voyager Recon (aka Jungle Attack) Ironhide that is a repaint of the Revenge of the Fallen figure. The main differences with this version is a new head sculpt, a lot more weapon accessories, and smaller arm cannons.
