Linkfest - Christmas Time Is Here

Hopefully just in time for Christmas wish lists and gift giving (to fellow TF fans or yourself), here is a ton of reveals on Hasbro's Combiner Wars figures, Takara Masterpiece figures and a bunch of 3rd party figures with the year long emphasis on combiners. The 3rd party output remains painfully high for wallets with the combiners contining unabated (and most looking amazing) but now there is a more heathly mix of other, often Masterpiece scaled, figures. In addition to the reviews there are galleries to upcoming 3rd party toys, licensed statues, and action figures. To start though is some fan-art including a custom paint job, transforming Lego, and more. On a side note for Transformers: Robots in Disguise fans it has been confirmed the second season is also the final season with only 16 episodes and will end with a "movie" that is equal to 3 episodes. Exactly when it will start airing has not been revealed. On to the info dump.

Fan Art
Custom IDW Optimus Prime and Shockwave - Sadly this version of Optimus Prime and Shockwave isn't available. This custom paint job from LEK Custom Toys was inspired by the artwook from Transformers: Devastation IDW comic book from a few years ago that added a shiny sheen to all the TFs as a kind of hybrid of metal and cartoon look. The result is pretty fantastic looking. Even more images can be found at their Facebook page.

Linkfest - Combiner Wars Continue

The Combiner Wars continue for Hasbro with an upcoming release of the Protectobots and for most of the 3rd party companies who have released either completed around four or five combiners this year with another 5 or so set to finish by year end. It is an embarassment of riches for fans but also quite wallet draining if trying to keep up, especially if trying to get all the combiners. That is before you include the 6 or so Dinobot lines that also in works from these companies.

Much like how combiners wars are a nod to the past so too are some of the links below with a look at potential Action Master designs using combiners as action figures, some behind the scenes info from Transformers: The Movie and 35+ year old commercials from Japan that feature many of your favorite G1 Transformers before they became Transformers. There are also links to galleries to the first 3rd party Grimlock, Prime 1 Studios Age of Extinction statue line, and a stop motion video.

As for reviews, the links include Hasbro's Combiner releases of Cyclonus, the Protectobots, Stunticons, along with Robots in Disguise Jazz & Drift, Playstation Optimus Prime and Masterpiece Star Saber. For third party releases there are a ton of reviews to go with their now overkill output. Iron Factory and 3DX has three releases of their legend scale lines. ToyWorld completes their not Throttlebot combiner after over a year of nothing on that front while also releasing a solid take on not Astrotrain. The number of not Dinobots in the works has reached at least six lines that I can think of including two of them being combiners. Probably need to develop a cheat sheet to keep up at this point. Warbotron has completed their not Bruticus combiner that looks spectacular while Unique Toys reaches the halfway point on their not Terrocons. Those are just some of the many reviews linked below.

Transformers: Generation Stop Motion Video

Below is an excellent Transformers fan made creation that took six months to make in a great stop motion battle complete with special effects, G1 cartoon music, and more. It makes extensive use of Takara Masterpiece figures along with the 3rd party Masterpiece scaled figures that have been coming out for the last few years. The result is a cool battle that frankly tops all of Michael Bay's efforts.

Linkfest - Dinobots and Combiners Oh My

It has been a months since did my last linkfest and its shows with an epic ton of video reviews for upcoming figures from Hasbro's Combiner Wars line and all the third party figures. Below are a bunch of reviews for the first wave for the Combiner Wars with an occasional look at an incomplete combiner as Hasbro chose to swap a Stunticon with an Arialbot for each wave to emphasize their ability to swap to create "new" combined robots. Also a look at the first wave of Robots in Disguise toys along with Masterpiece Ultra Magnus and Bumblebee.

For third party reviews the theme is the Dinobots with four lines coming this year. Two of them are Masterpiece scaled figures from Fanstoys while Planet X's are based on War for Cyberton, and one is regular scaled release (from Fansproject) while last is a combiner (from Toyworld). Hopefully the reviews below will help in deciding which of the four to commit to. The 3rd party pattern remains combiners. Other than the Dinobots there are currently takes on the Terrorcons, Combaticons, Technobots and Protectobots. Before the reviews here are links to some upcoming releases, two 80s Transformers videos, and an update on Transformers: Robots in Disguise cartoon series.

Update: Added this reveal of Combiner Wars Devastator. No real deal details except that he may follow the G1 version with six characters merging and come complete as a collection rather than sold individually. Hopefully more will be revealed at the New York Toy Fair that starts Feb 2.

Linkfest - Combiner Wars

The news on the Transformers 5 front remains dead and probably will for a while but that doesn't mean the toys stop coming. In a few cons Hasbro and 3rd party vendors teased about the next six months or so of releases. For Hasbro that means Angry Birds, Combiner Wars and Robots in Disguise toys.

For third party companies, the theme remains combiners with upcoming releases of combiners but it seems the theme for 2015 is Dinbots with at least three separate sets coming one of which will be an actual combiner. Other galleries include a look at Optimus Prime turning into a Playstation 1 console, a look at Ultimetel Prime, and more. On the video review front we have looks at the next wave of Generations Deluxe and Voyager toys, look at two versions of Swoop, reviews of the not Technobots, more Masterpiece figures including Wheeljack, and bunch more.

Linkfest - Dinobots and More

If last few years seemed like 3rd parties focused heavily on combiners, it seems this year has become about the Dinobots as at least three or so companies are prepping their own Dinobot homages. In that realm we have galleries for not Computron, not Swindle, not Sky-Byte, and early look at the not Throttlebots combiner. On the official products front, Takara is working on their take of the Sega Genesis Transformer and a new paint job for Evasion Mode Prime. Hasbro has released images of some of their Angry Birds Transformers line and a look at some TF4 exclusives. In the licensed products realm, Hot Toys is releasing their take on Optimus Prime while Prime 1 Studio has movie inspired busts in the works along with a large and expensive Starscream statue, and Kubrick is releasing their own Bearbrick Transformers. In addition have a look at apartments that kind of transform through creative use of space. On the review front, a look at 28+ toys that have been released or about too. A few favorites include a look at Generations Jetfire, iGears new design of the Seekers, not Skullcruncher, Guardian, not Sludge and a Dinobot combiner.

Linkfest - Review Catch-Up

With all the Transformers 4 news, got a bit behind on the toy links. Now that we seem to be in a bit of a mini-TF4 news drought (at least until TF4 hits Chicago on Friday), it seems like a good time to play catch-up. Most of the upcoming toys were revealed at cons over the summer but there a lot of cool stuff being planned like a 3rd party version of Nova Prime, not Bruticus and more. Also have a ton of reviews for already released or about to be released toys from Hasbro, Takara and others. Also news from comics, Hasbro and more.

Lego
Nintendo 64 Transformers - Very cool Lego creations that uses Nintendo 64 and is peripherals as alt modes that transform into robots and other objects.
Lego Ratchet and Ironhide - Hit link for fan made Lego creations that actually transform and look remarkably like their Generation One inspired source.

Botcon 2013

Last weekend Botcon 2013 was held in Austin, Texas. On the whole no major news. Hasbro was on hand to hint at their toy line-up for the next few months and used the panels to to tease future plans like Generations 2014 and 30th Anniversary collection. IDW spoke about their already solicited comics but no major revelations. Hasbro bans 3rd party makers from the convention but that didn't stop a few from showing off their wares. Transformers 4 wasn't covered at all so nothing new to report on the toy front. Hasbro did show off their Beast Hunters line up but as the links below indicate, "repaint" is the norm rather than exception but the Generations line is looking awesome. Below are summaries of info and links to lots of galleries put together by other Transformers sites that were able to attend the convention.

Update: Some TF4 toy news thanks to an interview with Hasbro's Joshua Lamb (starting at 24:05 point) from TF reviewer Vangulus indicates that discussions with Michael Bay on toy design indicates a goal of trying to simplify for faster transformations to try and mimic the movies (and cartoons) where characters transform and "engage to the action fast." The scaling of legion class Beast Hunters to deluxe size is an experiment towards simplification but TF4 toys deluxe are being designed from scratch. The interviews with two Hasbro managers discussing the toys and Hasbro's future approach can be found here.

Amazing Transformers Inspired Costume

Below is a video of a sweet movie Transformers inspired costume called Bolt with moving parts, light up eyes, jet pack smoke thrusters, moving mouth and more. The sound is off because Marc De Repentigny got a notice about the background music that was playing. You can also find a gallery of images for the suit at MarksProjects.com.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Linkfest

Time for a little cleanup on miscellaneous stuff that has popped up related to Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Links include a look at custom figures, a chance for Nebraskans to see two DOTM vehicles, a TF limo, new apparel line and more video reviews.

Customized DOTM Ironhide, Megatron and Sentinel Prime
Hit the link for a look at the custom figures based on the Dark of the Moon toys, each with a new gorgeous paint jobs, lights and other custom details that really make the figures stand out.

Gearing Up for DOTM
An interesting article with Tactical Pro Shop CEO Matthew Kime as he talks about how his company help outfit the gear that NEST wore in Dark of the Moon. “We started this project in Feb. 2010, so we had to be very proactive regarding where things are heading, plus integrate conceivable pieces of tech that this ‘elite’ unit would have had developed for their mission.” The company also helped on ROTF, helping with supplies when the shoot ran short in China. Life Size Transforming Ravage

Compute146 has created a sweet custom Transformer that takes the Generation One Ravage of scales him to the size of a medium size dog. He transforms to a cassette type shape that fits in his custom briefcase. These are few images, with more here. What you should really check out is the thread where he describes the creation process step by step with images as he worked on it over four months. That can be found here.

Transformers Linkfest

Custimized Masterforce Overlord Transformer
One of the things I love about Transformers is how some fans can take a base figure (or two) and really just go to town creating wonderful new Transformers. At the link are a few images of such an effort. Using Armada Tidal Wave, ROTF Jetfire, and ROTF Bludgeon, procustimizer Sabrina created Masterforce Overlord (from Japan TF series) that is the combination of Giga and Mega.

Transformers: Prime Heads to Europe
Hasbro has reached an agreement with Turner Broadcasting to air Transformers: Prime in the UK, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and the Middle East. The show will start airing in summer 2011 on a combination of their "kid" network depending on what is available in each country.

Sumalee Montano (TF: Prime's Arcee) Interview
TFW2005's Black Oracle posted this interview with the lovely Sumalee Montano who voices Arcee in Transformers: Prime. It provides a little bit of background on the actress, becoming familiar with Transformers, Arcee, and meeting Susan Blu (original voice of Arcee).Read More »

Click the link for a gallery of images of the movie version Optimus Prime ice sculpture. Created by Antti Pedrozo and Michel de Kok, the structure stands around 26 feet tall.

Masterpiece Rodimus Prime Transformation
As the image shows, a look at how the transformation from robot to Hot Rod vehicle to Rodimus Prime truck works. The MP toy is currently scheduled to come out in January 2011 and currently the import cost is around $200.

Custom Transformers Guzzle Gallery
Hit the link for a gallery of images of master Transformer customizer frenzy_rumble. Guzzle is based on the G1 toy from 1988. Not entirely sure what the base Transformer toy is for his custom job, keep thinking it is Titanium series Grimlock but not 100% sure about that.Read More »

New Blog Logo, Posters (Updated)

Brief blog note. Big thanks to Jeffrey of Pixel Rally for the new blog title, especially the sweet Autobot and Decepticon symbols with the Moon in them to match the new logo for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. What do you think?

Update: Jeffrey was kind enough to make public his designs for the Decepticon and Autobot logos along with two posters of his own creation. These are not official designs for the movie, but inspired by the current title design. The four images can be found here. If you do snag em for your websites or whatever, just make sure to give Jeffery and Pixel Rally the credit.

Transformers Linkfest

Time for another linkfest. More galleries with emphasis on upcoming Transformers: Generations toys along with a few reviews.

Transformers United Kup and Perceptor
Hit link for few images of the G1 character re-imagined with new alt modes. "United" is Takara's name for the Generations line from Hasbro. A leak from Hasbro Malaysia indicates the figures will get a stateside release in February along with Wheeljack, Rumble, Frenzy, Wreck-Gar and few others (links to their galleries below).

Transformers On Sale
Not sure for how long but Wal-Mart has dropped the price on Deluxe and Power Core Combiner 5-packs. The Deluxe sizes, including Generations are selling for $9 instead of retail of $12. The Power Core figures are $15 instead of $20, a pretty good price point if on the fence about trying these toys out (or buying ahead for Christmas). In addition, Target is selling the Power Core 2-packs for $7. Personally I used the sale to snag Generations Soundwave, Bumblebee, and Drift. All are pretty solid figures that match the Generations line well and warm my fuzzy nostalgic heart.Read More »

Transformers Linkfest

No new news yet for Transformers 3 in Florida so here are links to galleries and reviews of upcoming toys that will be hitting toy shelves over the next few months. Make sure to view the sweet fan created film that is a nod to the Nokia robot from the first film.

Generations Wreck-Gar
The Transformers Collector's Club has provided the first look Wreck-Gar. I believe the last time we saw this character was for Transformers: Animated and now we are getting a Generations line toy that is closer to his G1 origins. While the robot mode is pure G1 goodness, his alt mode is no longer a motorcycle. The figure is coming sometime next spring.

Transformers Camera Battle
Below is a sweet Transfan short film that pits two transforming cell phones against each other, using the transforming Nokia phone design and sounds from Transformers. Over all a pretty sweet looking and highly detailed creation that is worth watching. Thanks to Arthur P. for the link.

Transformers Linkfest

Another installment with more galleries, toys and a custom 7 foot Prime for sale.

Custom Optimus Prime 7ft Statue (mirror)
From EBay Australia is this rather sweet looking fan made statue of Prime in movie form. The work is the result of around $10,000 in parts, 75 days of label, and a whole lot of scrap metal. The weight is estimated around 450-559kg (992-1213lbs). Click the link to read a lot more about the project. The "buy it now" price currently at AU $47k with no bids. Click here for the auction. Thanks to Katie for the link.

NEST Deluxe Figures Gallery
Click the link for a look at the nest wave of NEST toys for Revenge of the Fallen coming out early next year. The images include Brawn, Lockdown, Ratchet, and combined Skystalker and Mindwipe (vehicle mode only).

Shadow Command Megatron & Strike Mission Sideswipe in Packages
At this link are images of the two toys in their packaging. Both are repaints that actually appear to be a better color scheme then their original look. I believe both are part of the next wave of toys coming out early next year.

Buster Prime & Jetfire 2-Pack
Asian only release, this leader class two pack features the improved version of Optimus Prime with Jetfire who is also featuring a new paint job with a black, brown and dark gray scheme. Still no indications if Buster Prime will make a Stateside or European release.

Official Images of 2010 Legends and Deluxes
Click for sizeable gallery of the next wave of Legends, Deluxe and HA Barricade that is coming early next year. It’s basically two images per, one for package, one for alt mode. The images include Legends Wheelie, Soundwave, Bluesteel Sideswipe along with Deluxe Dirge, Alliance Bumblebee, Tuner Mudflap, and Armorhide.

Ultimate Optimus Collection Auction
If your a fan of Optimus Prime you might be interested in this auction which has almost 140 different Prime items for sale in one auction. Click the link for images and the full list. The auction expires on December 20th. Thanks to OptiMagnusPrime for the link.

Custom Generation 1 Ark Autobots Auction

ProCustomizers.com has charity auction going on now for the Make-A-Wish Foundation that gives you a chance to own Autobots that arrived on the Ark when it crashed on Earth in the original Transformers cartoon. The figures are based on Transformers Classic and Animated toys but customized in their G1 colors with much greater details. Currently included in the auction are Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Hound, Ironhide, Jazz, Mirage, Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, and Wheeljack. It will also include a lithograph of "On the Wings of Heroes" art (image to right is work is not final art). The auction runs through November 29, 11PM EST. So if you want to give until it hurts and get something cool in return be sure to check it out.

The eBay auction with images of the toys can be found here. The video "commercial" for the auction (below) is courtesy of Peaugh.

How ROTF Should Have Ended and Music Video

Two videos for your entertainment, both influenced by Transformers. The first is an amusing animated video that shows how Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen should have ended with jibes at some of the plot holes of the film and an ending that Generation One fans would have loved to have seen. Thanks to Scorpio for the find.

The second is the music video for "I Can Transform You" from Chris Brown that clearly influenced by Transformers, as if the line "I can transform you like Optimus Prime" wasn't a hint. Thanks to Brandon for the link.
